Gloria Färber

Since January 1st 2024, Gloria Färber is Professor and the Chairman of the Department of Cardiac Surgery at the Saarland University Medical Center, Homburg/Germany.

Education, Training and Positions

Gloria Färber started her surgical training in Freiburg (Chairman: Friedhelm Beyersdorf) and Leipzig (Chairman: Friedrich Mohr). In 20210 she promoted to Assistant Professor in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Jena (Chairman: Torsten Doenst). She holds board certifications in cardiac and thoracic surgery.

Practice Areas

Her clinical and surgical interests include the full spectrum of thoracic and cardiac surgery with a focus on minimally invasive surgery, valve repair, aortic surgery and heart failure surgery (incl. heart transplantation and assist device surgery).

Other Interests

Throughout her career, she actively pursues basic and clinical research focusing on minimally invasive surgery and heart failure.

Membership in Professional Societies

Since 2019, Dr. Färber is an active member of the AATS. She supports EACTS in various roles, as chair of the task force heart failure and serving on the Program Committee for the annual meeting. She is a member of the board of the German Society of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (DGTHG) and leading the network of women in cardiac surgery.

Editorial Positions

She is an active member of several editorial boards and serves as co-chair of the new EACTS/STS/AATS/Guidelines on temporary mechanical circulatory support in adults and was in the writing committee of the EACTS Expert Consensus on long-term mechanical circulatory support. Since 2018, she co-chaires the program Committee for the EACTS and DGTHG and currently for the AATS.
