EJCTS publishes special supplemental issue dedicated to Drainology

While the role of chest drain management might not always grab attention, its impact on postoperative recovery in thoracic and heart surgeries is crucial. Amongst the many benefits, effective drainage can significantly influence patient outcomes, preventing complications like retained blood syndrome, persistent air leak, chest infections and empyema.
This supplement comprising of the latest and most up to date reviews of Drainology and chest drain management delves into the methods, applications, and complications associated with drainage systems in perioperative care.
As Gloria Färber, Drainology Board member, and her esteemed colleague, Ulrich Schneider put it:
“First, it should remind cardiothoracic surgeons on the tremendous scientific and clinical goals over the last decades that paved the way for such new fields of interest. Second, it underlines the importance of ongoing interest and curiosity that further improves the quality of cardiothoracic surgery. Last but not least, it provides interesting insights into recent findings one might transfer into daily practice.”
