This narrative review examines barriers to adopting digital chest drainage systems and highlights the critical role of Clinical Nurse Specialists in translating evidence into practice. Although digital drainage offers clear clinical and operational advantages, uptake remains limited by clinician preferences, educational gaps, and entrenched reliance on analogue systems. The authors argue that successful implementation requires more than technology alone, emphasizing clinician engagement, peer influence, social learning, and systems‑level value to support broader integration of digital chest drain management.
